In order to accelerate the cultivation of high-level agricultural talents, the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the construction of employment and entrepreneurship bases, and promote the rapid development of modern agriculture in Changshu City, on October 27, a party and government delegation from Changshu, Jiangsu Province came to our school to discuss joint training of high-level talents and industry-university-research cooperation.
The delegation was led by Wang Jianguo, Deputy Secretary of the Changshu Municipal Party Committee, and Fan Jianguo, Deputy Mayor of Changshu City. The meeting mainly focused on "leveraging the advantages of both parties to promote the economic development of Changshu City and the educational development of Southwest University, and explore a path of efficient collaborative innovation with local governments, joint training of high-level talents, and cooperative development of industry, academia, and research." Wang Jianguo, deputy secretary of the Changshu Municipal Party Committee, and Fan Jianguo, deputy mayor of Changshu City, introduced in detail the economic development and agricultural development of Changshu City, and raised issues that restrict the development of modern agriculture in the city and thoughts on seeking cooperation. They said that in order to achieve the goal of accelerating the construction of "one center, two parks, and multiple bases", create a modern agricultural development platform, and guide the transformation of traditional agriculture into modern agriculture, Changshu City's municipal party committee and government attach great importance to comprehensive cooperation with colleges and universities across the country, and believe that this trip will yield important gains.
At the meeting, the two parties focused on four aspects of cooperation: First, talent training. Based on development needs, the school provides management talents and technical personnel, carries out talent training such as degree and postgraduate education, and improves the cultural literacy and management capabilities of relevant personnel; the second is joint training of postgraduate students. Based on Changshu City, the school has established a "Graduate Internship Practice Base", "Graduate Joint Training Base" and "Professional Degree Postgraduate Professional Practice Base", and has formulated and implemented plans for the construction of workstations for master's and doctoral students; third, the school has sent a doctoral student service team to carry out social practice, temporary training and on-the-job internships; according to the development needs of Changshu's characteristic agricultural industry, it has held skills training and provided consultation and services for agricultural products before, during and after production; fourth, talent introduction. Changshu City holds on-site job fairs at schools based on the needs of economic and social development, giving priority to the introduction of graduates from relevant majors. The school supports and encourages graduates to pursue employment, entrepreneurship, and job training, and provides recommendations and services for the selection of graduates.
In addition, the "double recruitment, dual employment" cooperation model proposed by Zhu Dequan, Minister of Education, and Zhou Zhiqin, Dean of the School of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, proposed creating a "modern and healthy" city image of Changshu, which have received great attention and recognition from the leaders of the Changshu Municipal Party Committee and Government.
The leaders of Changshu City who attended the meeting expressed their gratitude to the school for its support for the development of Changshu, and unanimously stated that they will conduct long-term and in-depth cooperation with the school in the future.
Changshu is located in the heart of the fertile and beautiful Yangtze River Delta. It is named after its "fertile soil and no floods or droughts". It is known as the "Blessed Land in the South of the Yangtze River" and is one of the most economically powerful county-level cities in mainland China. Currently, a modern agricultural industrial park and a fishery industrial park in Changshu, Jiangsu Province are being built; agricultural sub-centers for rice technology innovation in the Yangtze River Basin and national hybrid rice engineering technology research centers have been built; 12 unique industrial bases including rice industrial bases, supermarket vegetable bases, and special aquatic product bases have been formed; and there are 60 leading enterprises in agricultural industrialization at all levels.
